I talked to Rebekah on the phone last night I made her feel bad when she was feeling all right. And I don’t see an end in sight I’ve been living it all wrong. Living it all wrong. We were making our plans, I was nervous as could be I don’t know if I love her or if she loves me And love don’t come too easily When you’re living it all wrong. Living it all wrong. On the shelf the bells are sitting I don’t know if they’ve been ringing In this filthy room there’s no salvation Where’s the girl and where’s the boy? Where is all the happiness and joy? And the excitement of tomorrow? Rebekah, it’s easy I thought it would be . . . easy. We talked about moving to a country place Living our lives at an easy pace. I said “you know my habits are hard to erase. I’ve been living it all wrong. Living it all wrong.” Where’s the girl and where’s the boy? Where is all the happiness and joy? Are you gonna see me tomorrow? Rebekah, it’s easy I thought it would be . . . easy.

Carolyn 03:41
Carolyn said the wrong thing again And everybody tried but they didn’t know what she meant. It’s not easy when Carolyn says the wrong thing. Carolyn don’t go home again It’s no good for you They don’t know what to do Just come with me and we’ll see a movie And walk down Broadway. And don’t try to say the right thing Cause it will come out wrong Don’t try to take my hand Because you know we don’t belong together Carolyn, we don’t belong. It’s just another day with Carolyn. It’s never easy, no, no. Another day for Carolyn. She’s going crazy, yeah, yeah. Another day with Carolyn. She doesn’t need me anymore. Another day with Carolyn. Carolyn, it’s the same thing again. Stars are in your eyes and lipstick traces. Rooms are dancing and you’re in fantasy land. Aw, but Carolyn, don’t be afraid again. There’s nothing else to do and I’m here too. So close your eyes and rest awhile And I’ll sit beside you And don’t try to say the right thing Cause it will come out wrong Don’t try to take my hand Because you know we don’t belong together Carolyn, we don’t belong.

They tried to tell me back in 1921 You better have fun, cause it’s over soon I was living in a valley then, and there were shadows on the wall Noone to call on the telephone Always till always, a voice would say to me I wish that you could see the mountain Always till always, you know the waters of the sea They just want to be somebody, just like you do. Down down by the river of the sound That’s where I wanted to be They don’t have no words there, it’s just power You can stand in the middle of a sound wave And listen to the noise Everybody would enjoy that power Always till always, a voice would say to me You know who I am now, don’t you? Always till always, you know the waters of the sea They just want to be somebody, just like you want to be somebody. Thomas Hart Benton back in 1932 Didn’t know what to do with his lifetime He was looking at his paintbrush in the middle of the afternoon 10,000 people in his lifetime. Always till always, a voice would say to me I wish you knew where you were going Always till always, you know the waters of the sea They just want to be somebody, just like you do. Always till always, always till always . . .

We went to the recital on Monday and then we came home And washed the window. The weather was lovely all weekend But we are alone once again. And she’s cleaning the counter She’s cleaning the window, the window. I am thinking about the recital I’m still listening to the recital And she is walking down the stairway Where I once used to play. We used to be married But now we are living alone once again In the surrounding desert sun. Where the sun meets the trees And the trees meet the sun And the rain’s coming down And we’re walking around. We’re walking. She turns out the light in the kitchen And goes up to bed Just like she used to. I’m sitting down and I’m listening to what she said Once again. As I am closing my eyes I hear the water running. As I am closing my eyes I can hear someone coming . . I go up to bed. She’s resting her head. I am thinking about the recital. I’m still listening to the recital. And she is walking down the stairway Where I once used to play.

I moved away from everything From politics and piano playing I should have kept some souvenirs But I’m not sorry because The people where I’m living now They don’t speak English. English. Tons and tons of melodies Slipped through my fingers like symphonies But that’s so funny now because I realize that Somebody’s gonna pick up all those pieces and make some money. Money! Fragments falling. Fragments falling. Fragments falling over me. Fragments over me. I get some calls on the telephone From broken hearted people all alone. I’m gonna change my number soon, As soon as I get some money. It would probably be easier If I didn’t know English. English. And if I move away from here I’ll move to a place so beautiful and clear A place where everyone knows what to do on Saturdays And I’ll be thinking about the building As it fades into the night time. Night time! Fragments falling. Fragments falling. Fragments falling over me. Fragments over me.

We now have time Put your head down. Talke a walk in the old town. Past the window with ceramic figurines. Settle down now, you know what I mean We now have time. We now have time. You’re not supposed to know where you’re going tonight And you’re not supposed to know if the end will be alright, But a few small words and then you’ll know Put them down and let them show We now have time. We now have time. Time to talk out loud And time to build a home Time to fight And time to be alone Time to read a book About a long time ago. So look outside, there’s a house up in the air Now look outside, there’s trees falling everywhere Close your eyes and close your ears Take a breath, the storm is here. We now have time. We now have time. The ceiling’s blue and the paint is white And the fat lady says, “there’s no end in sight” And I don’t know her, but I’m sitting on her bed I look outside and just like the lady said, We now have time. We now have time. We now have time. We now have time.

On The Moon 03:51
On this surface we are singing Baby it’s a drag. She has got her children with her And I have got my magazine. I don’t have my magazine. In our spacesuits we are crying It’s another show. She has got her own antenna And I don’t have my radio I don’t have my radio. On the moon We don’t get good reception, on the moon On the moon We don’t get very far, on the moon. And we don’t hurt our children here Cause we know where we are. We’re on this surface that we call the moon. If you ever take a spaceship Come to visit me I am living on this planet With my little family, with my little family. On the moon We don’t get good reception, on the moon On the moon We don’t get very far, on the moon. And we don’t hurt our children here Cause we know where we are. We’re on this surface that we call the moon. We are on the moon We are on the moon We’re on the moon.

If I were you I would love me I’m not as bad as I seem. I go to sleep and I dream Just like everybody else does. If you were me You’d be lonely You wouldn’t know what to do. And you’d be thinking of you and you’d miss yourself. I know you would. That’s why I always go around, around. I need someone to bring me down To the ocean. If I were you I’d be leaving I would be walking away And I’d be listening to my footsteps As I’m leaving me. If you were me, you’d be listening As you were walking away And there’s nothing to say Cause there’s nobody here It’s only time to listen to the silent night Silent night Get up in the morning and put on your clothes Silent night, silent night, night. Get up in the morning and put on your shoes. Silent night, silent night, night Get up in the morning and put on your clothes Silent night, silent night, night Get up in the morning and put on your shoes Silent night, silent night, night Get up in the morning and put on your shoes. Silent night, silent night Get up in the morning and put on your clothes Silent night, silent night, silent night Get up in the morning and put on your shoes Silent night, silent night, night. Get up in the morning and put on your clothes.

Way over the hill That’s where we gone That’s what we did. We followed the ground Look what we found We’re on the top of the world. If you want to see What it is like Over the hill Just look in the sky My cherry pie We’re on the top of the world. And if you think that summer Didn’t come this year I think that you’ll find it If you come over here. And if you think you’re going And if you think that you’ve gone. You know where to find us At the end of the song Way over the hill That’s where we gone That’s what we did. We followed the ground Look what we found We’re on the top of the world.
